Meeting of representatives of the Czech Republic and Portugal to the topic of public finance management and control system

From 30 May to 1 June 2022, a meeting took place between representatives of the Central Harmonization Unit of the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic and representatives of the General Financial Inspectorate of the Portuguese Republic and the Court of Auditors of the Portuguese Republic.

The purpose of these meetings was to collect good practice and discuss the pros and cons of the public finance management and control system in the Portuguese Republic. The main topics were the rules of internal audit, internal control system and financial controls, both at the level of central government and at the level of local self-government bodies. A major topic was also the powers of the Court of Auditors, which has both an independent audit body function and a jurisdiction function in Portugal.

The acquired knowledge will be used as inputs into the analysis of the Portuguese system of financial management in public administration. This analysis will then be used in accordance with the objectives of the project „Strengthening Public Finance Management and Control“ as one of the bases in the preparation of the draft substantive intent of the Public Finance Management and Control Act.
