Minister of Finance

Zbyněk Stanjura was born in Opava, where he attended the local grammar school (today Mendel Grammar School). He continued his studies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Brno University of Technology, where he earned a degree in electronic computers.

After the fall of communism, he founded a company with his classmates and worked there first as a programmer and later as the managing director for 11 years. His interest in his hometown brought him to municipal politics. He was a member of the Opava City Council for 17 years, led the ODS in the local government elections four times, winning three of them, and eventually served as the Mayor of Opava for eight years.

He was elected to the Moravian–Silesian Regional Council three times and served there for a total of 11 years, including eight years as a Member of the Regional Board. He was Chairman of the ODS Regional Club for ten years.

He applied his experience from municipal politics in the Chamber of Deputies, to which he was first elected in 2010. A year later, he became Chairman of the ODS Parliamentary Group. From December 2012 to August 2013, he served as Minister of Transport. He successfully defended his mandate as a Member of Parliament in 2013, 2017 and 2021. From November 2013 to October 2021, he was again Chairman of the ODS Parliamentary Group.

In January 2020, he was elected 1st Vice-Chairman of the ODS. In December 2022, he was appointed Minister of Finance.

Zbyněk Stanjura is married and has no children. He speaks English. In his free time, he enjoys travelling, reading and engaging in sports activities, such as in-line skating, cycling and walking.
